National Security Health Policy Center, at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, to Support the United Nations Development Program

NSHPC, an Academic Center of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, is supporting the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) country team in the Republic of the Maldives, an island nation located in the Indian Ocean southwest of India.

Arlington, VA—The National Security Health Policy Center (NSHPC), an Academic Center of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, will be supporting the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) country team in the Republic of the Maldives, an island nation located in the Indian Ocean southwest of India.

Gary L. Cagle, an adjunct researcher for NSHPC, has deployed for six months to serve as a Consultant and Technical Advisor to the National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) of the Republic of the Maldives. His role is to help develop a National Disaster Response Plan and to assist in establishing the NDMC as an operational agency.

This six month project is funded by the UNDP Country Team, Maldives and is a part of the ongoing assistance being provided by the UN as the Maldives continue to recover and rebuild from the 2006 tsunami.

Donald Donahue, Executive Director of NSHPC, commented, “We are delighted to be able to make a contribution to the future and well being of those recovering from the effects of the 2006 tsunami.” He also stated, “As a Disaster Response manager myself, I fully understand the need for an organization such as the NDMC, and the value and life saving potential that it will bring to the Republic of the Maldives.”
