Ms. Whitney Matson, Research Associate Ms. Matson joined the Institute in September of 2002 as an assistant in the Research Division. She provides general research support to the Vice President for Research and other Institute staff on diverse projects. Ms. Matson was a team member on the Institute's Shaping Science and Technology to Serve National Security project, for which she analyzed social, behavioral and economic issues. She provided the principal research and administrative support to Project GUARDIAN, which examined privacy issues related to the war on terrorism. Ms. Matson worked with the Center for Emerging Threats and opportunities to update its Flashpoints study. This ongoing effort identifies indicators of conflict and develops a dataset to assess which nations are most at risk for conflict over the next two decades. Ms. Matson has also provided research and editorial support on additional Institute reports relating to critical infrastructure protection, intelligence, economics, neuroscience and ergonomics. Ms. Matson graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia in May of 2002, where she earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. She is studying Economics at George Mason University where she earned a M.A. in 2006 and continues to pursue her Ph.D.
