Defending America in the Twenty-First Century Monday, December 4, 2000 Featured Speaker: Dr. Eliot A. Cohen Dr. Cohen presented his views of two large problems: the overdue adjustment of the American defense establishment to the demands of the post-Cold War world, and the problem of increasingly tense civil-military relations. His remarks drew from his articles on these subjects in issues of Foreign Affairs and The National Interest. Dr. Cohen is a professor and the Director of Strategic Studies at Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies. He served on the policy planning staff of the Secretary of Defense and directed the USAF Gulf War Air Power Survey. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University and is the author of several books and numerous articles in the area of national security studies.
