Institute CEO and Chairman Michael Swetnam and International Center for Terrorism Studies Director Professor Yonah Alexander coauthored Usama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaida: Profile of a Terrorist Network, which provided a reference for academics, policy makers, reporters, and other interested individuals on this notorious terrorist group. This ahead of its time publication laid out the fundamentals of the international terrorist network that was heavily funded and led by its “prince,” Usama bin Laden, along with its ideology, objectives, organizational structure, leadership, targets and geographical areas of operation.

This book was one of a tiny number at the time, the book rocketed up the sales charts after 9/11 as the press, public and policymakers scrambled for information about the emerging terrorist threat.

Mr. Swetnam and Professor Alexander followed this book with a new volume, Al-Qa’ida: Ten Years After 9/11 and Beyond, which furthermore offered a comprehensive coverage of the group’s history, leadership, financing, propaganda, ideology, and future outlook. It focuses on how the group has been affected by a decade of relentless pursuit by the US and its allies, which culminated in the death of Usama bin Laden in May of 2011.
