“Aviation Security:
Past Lessons, Future Outlook, and ‘Best Practices’ Responses”

From aircraft hijackings in the 1970s to 9/11 and the mystery of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in 2014 to the latest destruction of EgyptAir Flight 804 in 2016, critical questions regarding the future outlook for aviation security continue to challenge the international community. While total safety in the skies cannot be achieved, are all the parties involved—government, industry, airlines, airports, and the public—motivated sufficiently to develop improved measures to reduce aerial human and technological risks?

A panel of experts from the public and private sectors have examined the challenges and opportunities in the aviation environment.

The discussion of the panelists was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander, Director, Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies, and Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The panel for the seminar consisted of: Captain Wolfgang Koch, Aviation Security Chairman, Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l; Dr. Anthony Fainberg, Former official at the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Security Administration and Douglas Kidd, Executive Director, National Association of Airline Passengers. The closing remarks were provided by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.), Twenty-Ninth Commandant of the United States Marine Corps; Senior Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
