"Post-Attempted Coup in Turkey:

Quo Vadis?"


In the wake of the failed coup in July, many questions have arisen both domestically and internationally regarding Turkey’s future political, social, economic, and strategic direction. Interdisciplinary academic experts provided assessments of likely developments in Turkey as well as the resulting implications for national, regional, and global security concerns.

Opening Remarks were given by Professor Don Wallace, Jr., Chairman, International Law Institute. The panel was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander, Director, Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies, and Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The panel consisted of: Dr. Ahmet S Yayla, Deputy Director, International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism and formerly served as Professor and the Chair of the Sociology Department at Harran University in Turkey; Dr. Sinan Ciddi, Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of the Institute for Turkish Studies, School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University; Dr. Kemal Kirişci, TÜSİAD senior fellow and Director of the Center on the United States and Europe's Turkey Project at Brookings Institution; and Dr. Jonathan Schnauzer, Vice President of Research, Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Closing Remarks were given by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.), Twenty-Ninth Commandant of the United States Marine Corps; Senior Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
