"Al-Qa'ida: Sixteen Years After 9/11 and Beyond"

As we marked the 16th anniversary of 9/11, is the worst yet to come? Will al-Qa’ida and its expanding network continue to threaten global security concerns? And what are the prospects of the U.S. and its allies to ultimately defeat al-Qa’ida as well as other terrorist actors, such as Daesh and the Taliban? A panel with extensive government and academic experience considered these issues and provided recommendations for comprehensive response strategies focusing on legal, law enforcement, intelligence, diplomatic, and military measures.
Opening remarks were given by Michael S. Swetnam, CEO and Chairman, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The panel was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander, Director, Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. Speakers included Ambassador Ronald E. Neumann (Ret.), former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and U.S. Ambassador to Algeria, Bahrain, and Afghanistan and currently President, American Academy of Diplomacy; Dr. Wayne H. Zaideman, former FBI Legal Attaché in the Middle East; Dr. Mir Sadat, Policy Strategist, Chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Navy and formerly Professor of National Security and Foreign Policy, National Intelligence University; and Professor Don Wallace, Jr., Chairman, International Law Institute. Closing remarks were provided by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.), Twenty-Ninth Commandant of the United States Marine Corps as well as Senior Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
