The Potomac Institute's International Center for Terrorism Studies held a seminar on May 24, 2017 titled "Is a New Middle East Strategic Order Emerging?". In view of President Trump’s Middle East policies and actions during the first hundred days of his administration and in the aftermath of the president’s first foreign trip, including to Saudi Arabia and Israel, is a new regional strategic order emerging? An assessment of this potential direction was discussed by a panel of experts with government and academic experience.

Opening remarks were given by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.), Twenty-Ninth Commandant of the United States Marine Corp and Senior Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Regents, at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.The panel was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander, Director of the Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and Senior Fellow at Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The panel consisted of: Ambassador (Ret.) Gerald M. Fierstein, Director of the Center for Gulf Affairs, Middle East Institute and former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs and Ambassador to Yemen; Barbara Slavin, acting director of the Future of Iran Initiative at the Atlantic Council and Washington correspondent for Al-Monitor.com; Dr. Nimrod Raphael, Emeritus Senior Analyst and editor of the Economic Blog at the Middle East Media Research Institute; and Professor Don Wallace, Jr., Chairman of the International Law Institute.Closing remark were also given by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.).
