The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies held a special Key Leader briefing by Admiral John C. Harvey, Commander, US Fleet Forces Command, and LtGen Dennis J. Hejlik, Commander, US Marine Forces Command, on Tuesday, January 31. The topic was Bold Alligator 2012 (BA12), a large-scale, multinational naval amphibious exercise, scheduled 30 Jan – 12 Feb. BA12 comes at a time of increased debate about the future of amphibious operations. The exercise is designed to revitalize naval amphibious core competencies, and to reinvigorate the Navy and Marine Corps’ culture of conducting combined operations from the sea. Battelle and the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies were pleased to present a special joint event, "Effective Innovation: Keeping America on Top," in the McEvoy Auditorium at the Smithsonian American Art Museum on December 15. This in-depth program examined the phenomenon of innovation in science and technology, economics and business, and the social and cultural spheres, with a particular emphasis on the importance of innovation as an engine of economic growth and a key element of our national security.
