Dr. Derek O'Callaghan to Speak at Potomac

Stuart Street, Suite 200 Arlington, VA 22203 (Ballston stop on the Orange line) Why: S&T for National Security in France and Great Britain Dr. O'Callaghan is currently a Senior Adjunct Fellow at the Institute, working on the European perspective within the Shaping Science and Technology to Serve National Security study.

He is a member of the U.K. National Defense Scientific Advisory Board and participates in the Weapons Board. He has lectured extensively at Universities and Institutes.

He prematurely retired from the British Army in June 1999 as a Brigadier responsible for S&T and equipment, and subsequently was sponsored by the Engineering Faculty at University College London where he achieved a Ph.D. in September 2001. His thesis addressed the impact of culture on defense procurement. He maintains close ties with the U.S., and continues his interest in government related issues. He will share his views on the state of, and shaping of science and technology and national security in the United Kingdom and in France.
