Gallington Honored at Pentagon Ceremony

6 December, 2002

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 6, 2002

Arlington, VA – Daniel J. Gallington, was presented The Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during a ceremony at the Pentagon yesterday.

Gallington was recognized for “exceptionally outstanding public service as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Territorial Security, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from May 2001 to November 2002.”

“Mr. Gallington provided exceptional leadership in directing policy operations for the EP3 incident and follow-on recovery operations. He designed the successful Department of Defense strategy for opposing the Biological Weapons Convention and the International Criminal Court treaties that would have put the United States and defense personnel at risk. He effectively dealt with Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict issues to include a revised counter narcotics policy; a force protection program at all U.S. Installations; Afghanistan reconstruction activities; and the development of DoD policy for handling detainees from the war in Afghanistan.”

A Senior Fellow at the Potomac Institute, Gallington leads and supports Institute studies and projects related to the dynamics of privacy and national security in the context of protecting the U.S. against terrorist attack.
