Ships of the Future Fleet – A Surface Navy Update

Who: Rear Admiral Mark Edward, U.S. Navy -Deputy Director for Surface Warfare, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations

What: Executive Luncheon: Ships of the Future Fleet – A Surface Navy Update: Preserving Strengths and Eliminating Gaps Admiral Edwards will outline the imperative for new combat capabilities at sea, and a new fleet of surface combatants. He'll describe the Surface Navy's role of protecting the force; providing assured access anytime, anywhere; and projecting power over land. The Navy faces a growing threat in the littoral, or coastal waters of the world, and Admiral Edwards will show how the Navy's experience in Operation Iraqi Freedom underscores the requirement for highly capable multi-mission combatants, as well as focused-mission ships to counter assymetric anti-access threats.
