Communications Center Looks at Iraqi Perceptions of the United States

Washington, DC – (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) -- On June 14, 2004, a program to expand the national debate on Iraqi perceptions of the United States was announced by The Communications Center at The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The Communications Center LLC.

“Diligent U.S. efforts to communicate with the Iraqi people do not currently seem to be generating positive results”, said Dan Dayton, Director of the Center. “Polling data, news and anecdotal information coming out of Baghdad every day point to a situation which seems to have stagnated. The premise for our discussion is that, in the absence of good analytical data of its audience, U.S. national communication efforts will not have the desired effect in Iraq”.

The Center offers itself as a focal point for a national debate on this issue”, said Dayton.

Potomac Institute Chairman, Michael Swetnam underscored the problem. “We as a nation, must not allow these perceptions to go unchecked, for if we do, our grandchildren and their grandchildren will be fighting a continuing global war on terror”.

A series of seminars and workshops are planned. The first in mid-July will focus on quantification of the problem.
