Security Strategies for Global Supply Chains

On Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 the Potomac Institute's VITAL Center hosted another supply chain security event entitled, "Security Strategies for Global Supply Chains". This was the third installment in its Global Supply Chain Security Series and featured speakers from a number of critical national infrastructures and industries, including the pharmaceutical, space, and automotive industries as well as the energy sector.

Many industries critical to national security depend on supply chains that today are highly interconnected and global in reach. Attacks and other disruptions to these supply chains can have serious downstream consequences to our economy, infrastructure, and military capabilities. The U.S. government will need to find and implement new tools to identify, monitor, and neutralize threats to the supply chain and will need to eliminate or mitigate the effects of supply chain vulnerabilities.

Introductory Remarks were given by Michael S. Swetnam, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The keynote speaker was Joye Purser, Ph.D., Deputy Director of Analysis and Innovation Division at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE).The panel was moderated by Michael Fritze, Ph.D., Vice President at Potomac Institute for Policy Studies and Director of the VITAL Center. Panelists were Chris Nissen, Director of Asymmetric Threat Response and Supply Chain Security, Special Concepts Group at the MITRE Corporation; and Tushar Misra, Ph.D., Vice President and Head of Global Oncology and Biologics Operations, Global Manufacturing and Supply, at Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Inc.
